Leatherette is a polyurethane-coated fabric that behaves nothing like the hide it imitates once a laser touches it. The coating lifts away to reveal a pale backing, so engraving produces a light mark on a dark sheet, the reverse of how real leather chars. That contrast, plus consistent thickness and a wide range of sheet colors, is why it dominates hat patches, koozies and keychain blanks. Sheets cut cleanly on diode and CO2 machines, and adhesive-backed stock presses straight onto caps, bags and aprons. Projects here cover patches, tags, covers and small goods, with monograms, logos and line-art designs that hold detail at small sizes.
