Real neon is bent glass and gas; the laser version is cut acrylic lit from the edge, which glows along the cut line in a convincing imitation. Script words and short phrases dominate because a continuous stroke lights evenly, and the same approach carries logos, gaming motifs, animals and bar quotes. Two builds are common: an edge-lit clear panel where the engraved line catches the light, and a cut silhouette with LED strip tucked behind. Colour comes from the LED rather than the material, so one cut can read pink, cyan or warm white.

FAQs

How do you make acrylic glow like neon?

Edge-lighting is the trick: light enters the sheet at the edge, travels inside it, and escapes where the surface is engraved or cut. A frosted or engraved line therefore glows while the rest of the panel stays clear. Clear cast acrylic transmits far better than extruded or coloured sheet.
