Tired of your joints being too loose, or needing a hammer to force pieces together?
This handy material thickness tester takes all the guesswork out of your projects. Designed specifically for nominal 3mm (1/8 inch) plywood, it helps you find the exact scale factor you need for a flawless fit. Simply cut this gauge from your material, test the tab to find your "Goldilocks" slot (not too tight, not too loose!), and read the percentage next to it. Select your entire design in your software, scale it to that exact percentage, and you are ready to cut!

How to Scale in xTool Creative Space (XCS) 🛠️
Since XCS doesn't have a dedicated "Percentage" button, here is the easiest way to scale your project using the scale factor from the tester:
Select ALL elements of your project (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A).
Ensure the "Lock" icon (Aspect Ratio) between Width (W) and Height (H) is closed/locked.
Use your calculator: Take the current Width (W) of your project and multiply it by your percentage (in decimal form).
Example: If your current Width is 200mm and your test result was 103.33%:
Type the new value into the Width field in XCS and hit Enter.
Quick Reference:
93.33% → Multiply by 0.9333
96.67% → Multiply by 0.9667
103.33% → Multiply by 1.0333
106.67% → Multiply by 1.0667
Done! Your entire project is now perfectly scaled for your material.
Step 1: Open xTool Creative Space
Launch the xTool Creative Space software on your computer.
Make sure your laser cutter (e.g., xTool D1) is connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Start a New Project
Click on “New Project” in the top left corner.
Step 3: Import Your File
Click on the “Image” or “Import” icon in the left toolbar (looks like a picture or file).
Alternatively, use the top menu:
File → Import
Browse to your file location and select your laser cut file (e.g., .svg, .dxf, .xcs).
Step 4: Position the Design
After the file loads, you'll see your design on the canvas.
Drag to position, rotate, or scale the design as needed.
Use the grid and workspace size to match your material size.
Step 5: Set Process Settings
Select each layer in your file.
Choose the appropriate action:
Cut, Engrave,
Use presets or manual settings based on your material.
Step 6: Frame the Design (Optional but Recommended)
Click “Framing” to make sure your design fits the material on the laser bed.
Step 7: Start Cutting
Click “Process” in the upper-right corner.
Confirm your settings.
Hit “Start” and watch your laser do the magic!
