Surprise Spin Box

Start by cutting out the box, the inner spin and veneer. Make sure that the holes in the sides and the slit in the front correspond to the ribbon and rod size you are using - see Figure A in the download file. Sand any edges you feel necessary.

Before cutting, test the kerf to make sure that the box slots snugly, specifically if using a different thickness of material

Make sure that the tape and brass (or wooden) rods fit the slit and holes that have been cut out before assembling the box and inner spin. 

Drill a hole in the center of the left and right edges using a micro drill and insert a short piece of the brass rod on either side, glued in with super glue or equivalent. 

Place the spinner with the ribbon at the top away from you and the surprise gift side downwards.

Insert the spinner into the three sides of the box (left, right and back), inserting the rod into the holes left and right. Center the spinner and cut off any excess rod. Sand the rod so that it is flush to the sides of the box.

Before assembling the front side of the box, if using photos, make sure you have made the slit in the front side photo for the ribbon / tape to pull through.

Assemble the front side of the box, and thread the ribbon through the slit.

Add the base of the box.

Glue on your photos threading the ribbon through the slit in the front photo. Trim the ribbon to length ensuring that there is enough left to double over for the pull. Optionally add a charm to the end of the ribbon.

The box is now finished. Proceed with the decoration of the spinner box.

These are the settings and images if you would like to make a coin or emboss on brass. Keyrings, engraved pebbles, jewellery all fit into the provided space.

Once the previous steps have been accomplished, glue with a hot gun or double sided sticky tab your gift and optional message.

You can use photos, illustrations, stickers, DTF images to transfer. These will compose the story you wish to convey around the four sides of the photo box.

Use a decorative band of gift paper or velum around the box and finish with your wishes using a sticker or personalized note.
