How do I remove the background from a PNG?

My image is already a PNG. Why does it still have a background?

PNG supports transparency, but it doesn't add it automatically. If the background was saved as solid pixels, it stays visible until it is removed.

Can I upload a JPG and get a PNG back?

Yes. You can upload JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP files up to 10 MB, and the result is downloaded as a transparent PNG.

Why does my transparent PNG show a white or black background?

The file was most likely converted to JPG somewhere along the way, which can't store transparency. Keep it as a PNG and check that the app you use supports transparent images.

Can I add a new background afterwards?
