Image transformed into a depth map, color relief, and STL relief mesh

STL Relief Generator from Image

Turn a photo, illustration, or prompt into front-facing relief geometry. Adjust the depth and backplate, inspect the mesh in 3D, and export a real STL surface for slicing, prototyping, decorative panels, or mold-master preparation.

Export Relief Geometry Instead of a Flat Depth Image

Build a shallow mesh with a defined base, then review it before entering the slicer.

How to Create an STL Relief

Generate the surface, define its base, and inspect the mesh before export.

01

Add the Image or Relief Idea

Upload a clear image, write a prompt, or select a template. Choose artwork whose important front-facing contours remain readable at shallow depth.

02

Set the Mesh Depth and Backplate

Choose Emboss or Engrave, adjust Relief Depth, and set a square or circular backplate with the required base thickness.

03

Preview and Export STL

Inspect the relief in 3D, confirm the edges and height direction, then use Export STL to download the generated 3D mesh.

Create Relief Geometry Instead of a Flat Image

The STL export stores a dimensional surface rather than grayscale pixels. The generator converts the reference into shallow geometry attached to a base so the result can enter a mesh-based workflow. It remains a front-facing relief, not a complete reconstruction of the object behind the photographed view.

Build the Relief on a Square or Circular Base

Turn on the backplate, select a square or circular shape, and set its thickness. The base supports the sculpted surface and helps the same motif become a tile, medallion, plaque, or prototype. Review the edge profile so the base and the relief read as one coherent model before export.

Inspect the Mesh Before Slicing

Use the 3D preview to examine contours, edge transitions, height direction, and the relationship between the relief and its base. This review can reveal a surface that is too flat, too steep, or inverted before the file reaches a slicer. It does not replace the slicer checks required for the intended manufacturing setup.

Export STL for Printing or Mold-Master Work

Download the generated relief as STL, then verify size, orientation, layer strategy, supports, and other production settings in the slicer or downstream tool. The export provides mesh geometry, but it does not guarantee that every design is watertight, manifold, or ready for a specific printer without review.

STL Reliefs for Geometry-Based Making

Use front-facing sculpted surfaces where the project needs a mesh rather than only a grayscale map.

3D-Printed Relief Tiles

Export shallow geometric tiles for sizing and slicing in a downstream workflow.

Decorative Panels

Create medallions, crests, botanicals, and patterns with a visible edge profile.

Prototype Medallions

Compare circular and square bases before committing to a final object.

Mold Masters

Use relief geometry as a starting point for reviewed mold-master preparation.

FAQs about STL Relief Generation

What is an STL relief generator?

It creates a shallow 3D surface from an image or prompt and exports that geometry as STL. The result is attached to a base and intended primarily for a front view.

Can I set the relief depth before export?

Can I add a backplate to the STL?

Is the exported STL ready to slice?
