Description

What is this

A 400-year-old optical trick: cylindrical mirror anamorphosis. The board carries a ring of warped, unreadable linework. Stand a mirrored cylinder on the placement circle and look from the calibrated height and distance — the pattern resolves into an upright image on the cylinder.

Mirror preview: see the finished piece on a table before you make it

✨ Highlights

  • Live 3D mirror preview — switch to the mirror view and check the result on screen before cutting anything
  • 5 built-in examples, or upload your own image (JPG / PNG / WEBP / SVG); greyscale and contour processing modes
  • Every parameter adjustable: mirror diameter and height, eye height and viewing distance, drawing size and wrap angle — the preview updates instantly
  • The placement circle is engraved on the board; the viewing height and distance ship in the bundled README, so the piece works as a gift

🛠 How to use

  1. Upload an image, or pick a built-in example
  2. Enter your mirror diameter (measure any polished steel tube you have) and viewing posture
  3. Switch to the mirror preview to verify the result
  4. Click “Check and export”
Drawing view: presets on the left, live warped drawing in the middle, all parameters on the right

📦 Export files

  • Laser, contour mode: layered SVG — placement circle (light engrave, never cut through) and vector artwork; operations carried by layer id, not stroke colour
  • Laser, greyscale mode: two 600 DPI engraving PNGs to pick one from — plain artwork, or artwork with the placement circle baked in
  • UV print: true-size 1:1 PDF and 300 DPI PNG (with bleed), optional white-ink layer
  • Every bundle includes a 1:1 instructions PDF (placement circle, dimensions, viewing guide) and a README
Pre-export check: file list, true dimensions and preflight results

🧰 Materials

Any sheet you can engrave or print on: basswood or birch plywood is the usual choice; light-coloured acrylic and cardstock work too. The mirror needs no machining — an off-the-shelf polished stainless-steel tube does the job (φ20–50mm is common; enter the diameter in the panel).
