Information

I wanted my new rack to fit snuggly without any play this meant that i could fit 2 of my previous 3 slot units but had a gap in the middle. So I set about altering the unit into a single slot. This means any size gap could be filled.

To start i used the templet to make a small narrow half box the size was as follows:

Each section was 10mm, Depth was 300mm and height was 280mm all other measurements were the same as i was making it in 3mm basswood.

When you make this box the parts of the box are all joined together from the templet and i was unable to split them, so I made an offset with a size of 0. This gave me a copy of the original and allowed me to release all the parts.

I then removed 2 of the triangle side pieces as i only planned to make a single unit.

I then had to group each bottom and side piece as all the cut outs were separate and that would have been a right mess. (highlight then group each set.)

Photo 1: Take each end ungroup.

Photo 2: Highlight each side with just the rectangle and small slots. Group each one top and bottom.

Photo 3: Move the group away from the other center slots.

Photo 4: Highlight extra slots and delete.

Step3: And Cut and Glue

I cut the wood, and because i have less patience with glue my husband glued it together, he used PVA wood glue and when they were together he also painted a layer over the back of the notches. This gave the box a lot more strength.
