White Ceramic Coffee Mug with Delicious Coffee Engraved Design

Because I used a mug with a handle, I had to use a rotary chuck.  I mounted the chuck opposite the baseplate to allow for more height.  (Instructions for mounting the chuck and reversing baseplate orientation in the RA2 manual.)  Also, I used the two step holders on the chuck.

My mug's handle was too large to allow the mug to rotate smoothly, so I jerry-rigged a heightening support under the base (a piece of ¼ inch scrap plywood and triangular supports) and added a weight to the back to counter balance the mug.

There must be a better, easier and more elegant way to do this, and I hope someone shows it to me.  But, it worked.

Down load the project.  Be sure to adjust distance and circumference appropriate for your mug. Adjust the size and placement of the graphic to your taste.  Use framing to check the placement and adjust as necessary.

As I had two mugs, I decided to experiment by changing the size of the graphic and the bitmap mode used (https://support.xtool.com/search-result?q=bitmap+mode.)  The mug on the right of the picture used jarvis.  I thought it was a bit clunky; so on the left I made it smaller and used stucki.  Personally, I prefer the stucki mug for the handling of hand and shirt details.

The original is a Currier and Ives print from 1881.  It is in the US Library of Congress archives and is in the public domain.

I first saw it while browsing this archive to find illustrations for a pamphlet on interesting facts about making hay.  You never know what you will find when not looking for it.
