Cigar humidor with decorative glass and hygrometer

I wanted to try my hand at engraving glass so I thought of putting the word CIGARS on my simple humidor that I have had for about 4 years now. I emptied out my humidor and used glass cleaner to clean the glass

Once the humidor was emptied and the glass was dry I proceeded to paint the glass with black tempera paint. The reason for this was to prevent the laser from going through the glass and engraving the bottom of the humidor.  I used inexpensive paint and small nylon brushes to apply as evenly as I could to the glass.  I waited for the paint to dry and applied three coats.

Once the paint was dried and I was satisfied that light would not shine through, I sent the file to the F1, adjusted focus, framed it  and started the engraving.  It took about 25 minutes to finish.

I was very satisfied with the finished result. I used warm water, a dropper and a metal business card to clean off the paint.  The warm water starts to dissolve the paint and the business card can be used to gently scrape off the paint, wiping with paper as you move along the glass.
