This project is enjoyable for children to cut out and paint. Mermaids, adored by many young girls, serve as wonderful wall art decorations in their rooms. It becomes even more precious to them when they have the freedom to paint and decorate it in their own way.
The first stage in the project involved setting up the initial design elements. I knew I wanted the shell to be the base layer and the mermaid to stand out on the top layer. I wanted the shell to be simple yet be discernable. To achieve these goals, I decided to outline the shape of the clam shell and cut it out.
The mermaid had some additional shadows, that I wanted to remove. I used the XCS image editing tool to use the magic wand and remove unwanted elements of the image. I also added an outline of the image. I will use this as the cut path
This project has a two main processes. The outlines are cut out with a cut process and the mermaid image is engraved.
The last step in this project is to paint the parts as desired and to glue them together.
