Well we all know about this problem, we all have bathrooms or rest rooms, toilets loos there are many names. But the same problem. This sign for the bathroom says it all.
Step 1) This bathroom sign starts out with a the text button, the default Hello appears but can easily be edited in the text box, as you can see it was changed to the following wording. We Aim to Please, You Aim Too Please.
Step 2) Now that I had the wording in the work area, I needed to unlock the size ratio to properly resize the wording to my liking, this is done with simply clicking on the lock right beside the actual sizes. When this is show the lock unlocked allows you to move the spots to any size vertically or horizontally at will. Now that I have a size set, it was time to use the outline feature to make the back ground, I selected a larger outline by adjusting the offset distance. The larger the number in the box the bigger and farther away the outline appears.
Step 3) In this step the outline is around the wording but there are little bits that poke through between the 2 lines of text, these small pieces can be removed if you don't like that look by adding a rectangle into the work area, moving the text away and positioning the rectangle to cover those bits. Then using the combine option select unite and they magically disappear.
Step 4) Once this has been complete it was time to copy and paste the lettering, there will be 2 sets of lettering. one set will be cut to create a second layer and the other will be left in place just for a guide to where the lettering will be. With the lettering on the back ground I use the align feature and adjust it vertically and horizontally to make sure it is center.
Step 5) As you can see there are 2 sets of lettering, I leave one set in place and set those letters to a light score ONLY this was it created a guide to where the individual letters will be placed after they are cut out. This trick helps for letter alignment and is covered up when the letters go over top when glued so nobody sees the scoring and the wording is clean and straight every time.
Step 6) In this step the rest of the settings are adjusted, all the cuts are the same settings so it is easy to complete. This project requires 2 different colors and I prefer to cut after the wood is prepared, so in saying that the back ground and scoring piece of the project is colored before it goes to the laser, it is prepared in the color desired in this case I went wilt a soft blue staining.
Step 7) As you can see there are 2 layers the top layer for lettering is cut from plain bare plywood and the base was cut from the blue stained wood. Even with the staining before the cutting and scoring the slight scoring is still visible to use as a guide for letters while gluing. Once everything was glued up it was time to put this little guy to work in the bathroom. hopefully this sign with a very important statement and message will do well in the future. Maybe making one of these of your own will help you too..Enjoy!
