Information

I created this 3 layer project because I have been trying to master layered art. I love the way layers allow for increased creativity and colors when designing a project. I am a huge dog lover and proud American so I wanted to couple both of those passions into one fun, artistic piece.

Instruction

1

Step1: Load files

Once you have dowloaded the files, import them into your software of choice. You will have three layers to work with.

2

Step2: Cut the layers

I used 95 power and 5 speed on the cut setting.

3

Step3: Clean the cut pieces

I have found Mr. Clean magic erasers clean the white hardboard the best. You can also use water and a rag.

4

Step4: Paint layer #1

Since I wanted this piece to be patriotic, I left the first, bottom layer unpainted. If you aren't using the white MDF board you will need to paint it white at this time.

Step5: Paint Layer #2 red

I use spray paint as I find it works best with MDF. You will spray paint this layer red. If you want the blue rectangle where the stars are to be blue, make sure you tape that part off when painting the red. After painting the red portion, cover everything but the star area and paint that area blue. I recommend using painters tape.

6

Step6: Paint layer #3

Layer number 3 is the top layer. I painted It black. This layer has no sunglasses on it.

7

Step7: Glue

Glue all three pieces. The bottom layer will be the layer with the sunglasses without the stars and stripes (white.) The second layer is the red layer (possibly blue too). The third (top) layer is black. I used Titebond blue bottle for this project.

Step8: Optional: Paint edges

If your spray paint ended up on the edges of the cuts, you can paint the edges black.
