Instruction

1

Step1

Import & Prepare the Design in XCS

  1. Open XCS: Launch xTool Creative Space and connect to your chosen machine.
  2. Trace the Image: Since the image is a picture (raster), click on it and select Image Trace on the right-hand panel. Adjust the fuzziness until the bears and text are perfectly crisp, check "Ignore Background," and click Save. (You can now delete the original image).
  3. Size It: For a standard trucker hat or beanie, select your traced design and resize it to roughly 2.5 to 3 inches wide.
  4. Add the Patch Outline (If Cutting): If you are cutting the patch out of a full sheet of leatherette, use the Shape Tool to draw a rectangle with rounded corners or an oval around the design. Skip this step if you are using pre-cut patch blanks.

Step2

Choose Your Machine & Set Parameters

Leatherette (PU faux leather) engraves by vaporizing the top colored layer to reveal the contrasting color beneath.

Option A: The S1 or P2 (Cutting from a Sheet)

Use this method if you bought a roll or sheet of laserable leatherette and need to cut the patch shape yourself.

  1. Material Placement: Place your leatherette sheet flat on the slats. Use magnets or honeycomb pins to ensure it is perfectly flat.
  2. Focus: Run the Auto-Measure tool.
  3. Set Layers:
    • Select the Mama Bear design. Set the processing type to Engrave.
    • Select your outer patch outline. Set the processing type to Cut.
  4. S1 / P2 Settings (Estimates):
    • Engrave: 15% - 20% Power | 300 mm/s Speed | 100 Lines per cm.
    • Cut: 60% - 70% Power | 15 mm/s Speed.

Option B: The F1 Ultra or F2 Ultra (Speed Production)

Use this method if you bought pre-cut leatherette patches with adhesive already on the back. This is the fastest way to batch-produce hats.

  1. Material Placement: Place your pre-cut blank patch onto the baseplate.
  2. Focus: Use the manual focus knob or auto-focus until the red and blue dots merge perfectly on the surface of the patch.
  3. Set Layers: Select the Mama Bear design and set it to Engrave. (No cut line needed).
  4. F-Series Settings (Estimates):
    • Make sure you select the Blue Diode Laser (the Fiber laser will burn right through it).
    • Engrave: 30% - 40% Power | 1500 mm/s Speed | 100 Lines per cm.
3

Step3

Frame and Fire

  1. Framing: Click the Framing button.
    • For the S1/P2: Ensure the laser head is tracing the outline over a clean section of your material.
    • For the F1/F2 Ultra: Watch the blue light outline trace directly onto your blank patch. Nudge the patch until the design is perfectly centered.
  2. Engrave: Close the lid (or pull down the shield), hit Start in the software, and press the physical button on your machine.

Step4

The Clean Up (Crucial Step)

When the patch comes out, the engraved area will likely be covered in a sticky, sooty residue. Don't panic; this is completely normal for leatherette!

  1. Spray a little bit of LA's Totally Awesome cleaner (or rubbing alcohol/Dawn dish soap water) onto a microfiber cloth.
  2. Firmly wipe the engraved area.
  3. The soot will wipe away, leaving a crisp, bright, beautiful engraving beneath!
