Two layered heart pendant

Cut out both layers. Be careful when removing small internal cutouts so you don't damage the front piece.

Paint the pieces or leave them in their natural wood color. You can use a different type of wood for each layer as well. 

You have a lot of options for customization.

Glue the layers together.

You can use wood glue for durability. Superglue will also work quite well. Apply a small amount on larger areas and press together.

Add a string or a keyring.
