Information

I saw these handmade oak coasters on etsy and decided to create a holder to complement the gift.

Instruction

1

Step1: Inspiration

I was looking for something special as a housewarming gift and I decided on these oak coasters. Luckily, I was able to pick them up personally, thus saving shipping costs.

Step2: Cut the plywood

There is really nothing more to do than cut the plywood!
I used 3 mm birch plywood as this doen't tend to warp.

If you use the same material then you should have no problem whatsoever, otherwise you should check your kerf settings as you may need to adjust accordingly.

Step3: Glue together

This is self-explanatory; however, if you are unsure, simply dry-fit the parts in place before applying the adhesive.
You can use either liquid super glue (which I recommend) or wood glue.
If you use wood glue, please apply it sparingly if you intend to stain the box afterward; otherwise, the stain will not penetrate the material evenly.

4

Step4: Stain finish

To complement the light birch, I chose a light oak stain. If you do decide to stain, please apply on both sides to avoid warping. I applied two coats, letting the first one dry completely before the second.

It's crucial to assemble the item before staining; otherwise, the wood may also warp.
