Pattern Maker turns parametric geometry into patterns you can actually manufacture. Fourteen algorithmic pattern types, seventy-four adjustable parameters, and no "generate" step — the canvas redraws as you drag the sliders. Every pattern tiles seamlessly in all four directions and uses exactly two colors, which is the form laser cutters, engravers and printers handle best.

  • Real project files — designs save and load as JSON (parameters only, no image data, so files stay tiny), with 50 steps of undo/redo and an indicator for unsaved changes
  • 18 interface languages — including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, the major European languages, and Arabic with full right-to-left layout

How to use it

  1. Pick a pattern type from the Pattern dropdown
  2. Shape it with the sliders — the preview updates instantly. New jumps to another random variation
  3. Set your tile dimensions (Width / Height) and the two colors
  4. Turn on Tiling Preview (3×3) and check that the edges join cleanly
  5. Export the SVG, then set the finished size in your laser or layout software

Use Save to keep a JSON parameter file, and Load to restore every setting later.

Pattern types

Organic

  • Voronoi — organic cell shapes from Voronoi tessellation, with control over cell count, rounding, uniformity and spacing
  • Rorschach — flowing, swirling inkblot forms from domain-warped Perlin noise
  • Reaction-Diffusion — Gray-Scott simulation, sweeping from labyrinths through worm-like forms to spots
  • Circle Packing — tightly packed circles across multiple scales, with control over the mix of large and small
  • Cityscape — irregular quadrilaterals placed inside Voronoi-distributed territories

Structured

  • Truchet — quarter-arc tiles that connect at the edges, from sharp L-bends to smooth curves
  • Masonry — irregular rounded rectangles in a brick-like grid
  • Shapes Aligned / Shapes Scattered — 10 geometric shapes on a regular grid or at scattered positions
  • Hexagon Grid — flat-top hexagons with 10 internal line styles, from simple radials to complex subdivisions
  • Pinwheel — central discs with curved arms that meet at the tile edges, forming continuous S-curves between centers

Fractal curves

  • Fractal Carpet — Sierpiński carpet built from recursive square subdivisions, with an invert mode
  • Fractal Hilbert / Fractal Peano — space-filling curves rendered as filled bands, with roundable corners

Materials and processes

  • Laser cutting — plywood, acrylic, leather, card stock, thin sheet metal: decorative screens, lampshades, coasters, storage panels
  • Laser engraving — wood, leather, anodized aluminium, stone; flat two-tone artwork is the cleanest possible input for raster engraving
  • Flat and UV printing — packaging, cards, tiles, and curved rigid surfaces such as vases
  • Garment printing — flat two-color artwork is ideal for DTF and DTG, and seamless tiling makes all-over prints straightforward

Before you manufacture

The export is a standard two-color vector SVG. Dimensions are recorded in design units and carry no physical size, so set the real finished size in your laser or layout software.

The Spacing and Balance sliders prevent features from collapsing to zero width, but the app has no knowledge of your finished size, so the minimum manufacturable thickness is yours to verify. For scale: a detail measuring 0.25% of the artwork is about 0.25 mm on a 100 mm piece, which will burn through 3 mm acrylic; the same pattern at 300 mm gives 0.75 mm, which is usually fine.

Seamless tiling requires shapes to cross the tile boundary, so some patterns extend a little geometry beyond the artboard. Printing software crops to the artboard automatically; before cutting, crop to the artboard or delete the contours that fall outside it.

Tips

  • Always check Tiling Preview before exporting — it exposes edge mismatches that a single tile hides
  • For physical objects, avoid very thin lines; use Spacing and Balance to keep enough material
  • Reaction-Diffusion is the slowest pattern. Keep Scale and Detail low while experimenting, then raise them for the final export
  • Rotate and Flip let you explore orientations without changing the underlying pattern
  • Hex shorthand saves time: 0 for black, f for white, 888 for mid grey
