Preview

Import & Resize

Open XCS and click Image to upload your design file.
Click the design to select it.
In the top size bar, ensure the Lock Icon is closed (to keep the ratio) and type in the width of your cutting board (leave a small margin, e.g., if the board is 11", make the design 10").

Step2

Machine Setup

Focus: Place your slate coaster in the laser bed. Use the auto-measure distance tool (or manual kickstand) to set the laser focus on the top surface of the slate.
Framing: Select your design and click Framing. Watch the laser outline the area on the coaster to ensure it is perfectly centered.

Step3

Settings & Burn

Parameters (Slate):

Processing Type: Engrave
Lines per cm: 100-120 (for high detail)
Power/Speed:
For 10W/20W Diode (D1 Pro/M1): Try 100% Power at 300 mm/s.
For F1 (Infrared): Try 100% Power at 500 mm/s (Dot duration 150).
Note: Slate handles high power well; you want to vaporize the top layer to reveal the white stone underneath.

Start: Click Process and push the button.

Step4

The "Secret" Finish

Clean: The engraving will look dusty/chalky. Wipe it with a damp cloth.
Enhance: Apply a light layer of mineral oil or a spray clear coat (matte or satin). This turns the grey background back to deep black, making the white engraving pop significantly.
