      River Strike captures a defining moment of raw precision as a bald eagle breaks the water’s surface, talons locked onto its prey. Rendered in a classic engraved style, the composition emphasizes motion and control—fully spread wings, rippling water, and the decisive downward force of the strike—all conveyed through layered line work and natural tonal contrast.

The engraving is completed on a solid 1-inch thick basswood block, giving the piece substantial weight and presence. Basswood’s fine, consistent grain allows the intricate feather textures, water movement, and background landscape to engrave cleanly while maintaining strong visual depth and clarity.
