Information

2026 is the year of the horse! To celebrate, I made this horse themed calendar. Every 2 months, a new design gets revealed as you update the calendar. It will bring you new joy throughout the year as you see the new horse design welcoming you into the next 2 months.

The calendar is layered, and gets changed every 2 months. Just move the old month board to the back, and the new months board will get pushed to the front. The colorful pictures are made of stickers, but can also be printed directly on the wood with the M1 Ultra inkjet as well. I chose to make them stickers for more vibrant and bright colors on a white background. You can print, engrave, paint or make them into stickers as well.

The stand/holder is made from 3mm (1/8 inch) thick wood. You will need to adjust the slots and the distance between the slots for different wood thicknesses. Please do not share this file outside of the xTool Atomm community.

Note: If you opened the XCS file that comes with this tutorial, all settings are already set-up for use with the M1 Ultra 10W.

  1. Open the file in xTool Creative Space.
  2. Load the inkjet module in your machine.
  3. Place the wood on top of the triangular prisms. Secure with tape or limit blocks, so that nothing moves.
  4. Change the Mode to Inkjet printing on the top bar in XCS.
  5. Print the file at 65% intensity.

Alternatively, you can also use the inkjet module (or home printer) to print and cut them out as stickers. I chose this method for brighter colors.

Step2: Laser Engrave and Cut

If your machine has been calibrated correctly, you should be able to laser cut the designs out without the need to manually frame.

  1. Switch the inkjet module to the laser module.
  2. Change the Mode to Lasering on flat surface on the top bar in XCS.
  3. Turn the output to the bitmap images/designs to OFF.
  4. Set the green engrave lines to 70 Power and 150 Speed for Engrave. I did 100 lines per cm.
  5. Set the black vector cut lines to 100 Power and 5 Speed for Cut. I only need 1 Pass at this setting.
  6. Measure the distance. I got 14mm as my distance for 3mm plywood sheet on top of the triangular prisms.
  7. Click the green Process button on the top right of the screen.
  8. A preview will be shown. Click the green Start button (top right) to send it to the machine.
  9. Press the button on the M1 Ultra machine to start.

You can skip steps 1-3 if you chose the sticker route, then proceed to just engrave and cut the wood pieces out.

  1. Apply glue to the back of the stand/base piece and attach it to the other stand/base piece. Align it so that the slots on both pieces match. Allow to dry. (Pictures 1 + 2)
  2. Carefully peel and stick the stickers on the front panel piece. (Picture 3). Skip this step if you printed directly on the wood.
  3. Glue the back board and front panel to the stand/base piece. Pictures (4 + 5)

  1. Carefully peel and stick the stickers on each month board. Skip this step if you printed directly on the wood.
  2. Gather all the month boards in correct order and slide them between the stand/holder panels.
