Create a stunning personalized family Christmas tree ornament featuring multiple layered wood pieces with custom engraved names. This elegant design combines contrasting wood tones in a tiered tree shape, making it the perfect keepsake ornament to commemorate your family members during the holiday season. The alternating dark and light wood layers create visual depth and showcase each family member's name beautifully.
Materials Required
Basswood or maple 3mm thick
Red ribbon or hanging cord
Wood glue
Sandpaper (220 grit)
Step 1: Material Preparation
Select a high-quality wood sheet with consistent 3-5mm thickness. Place the wood on your xTool work bed and ensure it's completely flat and properly secured.
Step 2: Design Customization
Open the design file in xTool Creative Space and personalize each section with your family members' names. The design features tiered sections that create a Christmas tree silhouette, with alternating engraved zones. Add the family surname to the bottom section for a complete personalized touch. Ensure all text is properly positioned and sized for optimal readability.
Step 4: Cutting the Ornament Shape
Once all engraving is complete, proceed to cut the outer Christmas tree contour and the small hole at the top for threading the ribbon. The wavy edges of each tier create the characteristic snow-covered tree branch appearance. Ensure your cutting parameters are properly set to cut completely through your wood thickness in a single pass.
Step 5: Cleaning and Finishing
Carefully remove the finished ornament from the work bed. Clean away any smoke residue or ash with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Lightly sand the edges with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth any roughness and remove burn marks from the cut edges. Be gentle around the engraved text to preserve clarity. You can apply a food-safe mineral oil or clear wood finish to enhance the natural grain and protect the surface, though many prefer the natural matte appearance.
