Slate coffee coaster

The file has two layers - black layer to engrave and orange layer as an alignment assist if you can't easily see framing on your machine. Orange layer is set to “ignore” in the settings.

I've found I get much better contrast on the coaster if I treat it first with a 50/50 mix of double boiled linseed oil, and white spirits. Carefully wipe a few drops over the surface using a soft cloth or paper towel and cover it evenly, allow a few moments for some absorption, then wipe it dry (remove the excess). I don't use this method if the coaster is for cold drinks, as the linseed prevents the slate from absorbing the condensate from a cold drink.

Prep only takes a minute if you're using linseed.

Load your coaster on the workbed, focus and take an image. The orange layer is 100mm x 100mm (standard square slate coaster) and all objects are grouped together. Just drag and drop over the coaster image, rotate if you need to and fine tune with the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Same settings whether you use the linseed oil or not.
