Information

My husband's favorite coffee mug/tumbler which he picked up at a Buc-ee's had the Texas Flag—"Come and Take It" logo which, after multiple washings had faded to nearly invisible on the mug. He was sad to see the design disappear, so I decided to engrave the image on the mug/tumbler so it would never fade. I measured the faded image and then found the public domain image that was used originally on the mug/tumbler (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texas_Flag_Come_and_Take_It.svg) and engraved it using my S1.

The "Come and Take It" logo is from a flag raised by Texas settlers at the Battle of Gonzales in October 1835 after Mexico attempted to retrieve a cannon which had been granted to the town of Gonzales for protection against raids by native tribes.

Step1: Attach tumbler to RA2 Pro rotary

Decide where you wish the center of the logo to be placed. Align the tumbler in the RA2 pro rotary attachment and tighten the chuck to hold the tumbler in place. Align the rotary tool within the S1 by using an 18" x 3" quilting ruler.  Put the level on the mug and add shims under the side of the rotary tool until it is level. I used a small microfiber towel folded  in thirds to add just the right amount of elevation to make the tumbler level (you may require a different thickness depending upon the exact shape of your tumbler).

Step2: Adjust settings and engrave

Rotate the tumbler until the location where the center of the design belongs is at the top. Use auto-measure to set the distance from the laser to the highest point on the tumbler. Update the settings for perimeter / diameter to match your tumbler.

BE CERTAIN TO CONFIRM that you entered the perimeter ( or diameter ) of the tumbler – it makes a big difference. The first time I engraved a tumbler, I entered the perimeter, not knowing that Xtool Studio defaults to “diameter”. The resulting engraving was compressed and was barely readable. See above image showing the compressed engraving.

Resize the image as applicable and then move it so its over the centerline shown by the application. Run framing to see if your image fits within the expected image size. Engrave the mug using the 20W laser.
