I created this layered heart photo wall piece to turn standard photos into a premium, decorative feature. The design uses a two-layer build where the bottom layer holds the photos, while the top layer is cut into heart shapes to frame each image cleanly. This creates depth, strong contrast, and a high-end look that works perfectly for family photos, couples, or pet memories as a wall display.
Instruction
Step1: Step 1
Cut the bottom backing layer from your chosen material (MDF, walnut, etc.) ensuring it is fully solid with no cut-outs.
Step2: Step 2
Cut the top layer with the heart-shaped openings, making sure all edges are clean and smooth for a tight finish.
Step3: Step 3
Lightly sand both layers to remove any burn marks and improve the final finish.
Step4: Step 4
Prepare your photos by resizing them slightly larger than each heart opening so they sit behind the cut-outs with full coverage.
Step5: Step 5
Attach the photos to the back layer using adhesive spray or double-sided adhesive sheets, making sure they are flat with no bubbles.
Step6: Step 6
Align the top layer over the photos carefully so each image is perfectly framed within the heart shapes.
Step7: Step 7
Glue the layers together evenly and apply pressure while drying to avoid gaps between layers.
Step8: Step 8
Use a utility knife to cut any photos over lapping the frame.
Step9: Step 9
Finish with oil, wax, or lacquer to enhance the wood grain and give a premium look.
