Information

If you have a laser engraver, nothing can go untouched with some sort of customization. ;) In this project, we will look at engraving a pattern and a label on a clothes pin that we use to clip a bag of flax seed. You can use this same procedure to label your clips or just add a decorative pattern to your clothes pins.

Step1: Use a Rectangle for layout

I like to begin my projects with a basic shape to help with layout.  Here i am using a rectangle sized a little larger than a clothes pin.  3 inches by .5 inches.

Step2: Add Pattern and Text

Next, I will add in a pattern.  XCS has many patterns to choose from,  These work great for backgrounds or boarders.  I am setting this one up to score onto the clothes pin.

Next simply add a text label and choose your favorite font.

Step3: Settings

The settings in this project file are for the D1 with a 5W laser.  You may need to change settings for your laser configuration.

Step4: Level and Align

Next, you will need to use something to level the clothes pin as they have a taper.  To do this i used some scrap from a previous project.  There were little circle cutouts.  These are 1/8 inch thick so anything that thickness will work well.

It is also important to line up the clothes pin so that it is parallel with the gantry.  I simply move laser to side and slide the gantry down to visually line up the gantry with the clothes pin.

Step5: Engrave

Next we line up the laser head so that the cross is just above the top left of the clothes pin.

Be sure to follow the safety guidelines for your laser and to always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
