Q: How do you keep a mandala aligned while gluing?

Cut two small registration holes through every layer and thread them onto dowel pins during assembly. Freehand alignment on a symmetrical design fails visibly, because the eye picks up a one degree rotation error immediately on radial patterns. Remove the pins once the glue has grabbed, or cut them flush and hide them under the top ring.

Q: How is a lotus lamp lit?

A warm white LED strip or a single bulb behind the layered stack, with the front layers spaced far enough forward that light escapes between them. Warm white matters: cool white makes birch look grey and kills the effect. Leave a gap at the back for heat and access to the power connection.

Bare or oiled wood almost always. The style depends on natural material and empty space, so paint tends to work against it. If you need contrast, use a darker timber for the backing layer rather than colouring the front, which keeps the surface texture the theme relies on.

Between 300 and 450 mm across for a feature piece, since the layered depth needs scale to register. Below 250 mm the rings crowd together and the piece reads as a single textured disc. At the larger end, add a plywood cross brace on the back so the outer ring does not bow away from the wall.
