Instruction

Step1: Short Step-by-Step Engraving Guide

Step 1 – Prepare the Board

Ensure the oak board is:

Fully sanded (180–240 grit)

Dust-free

Flat and stable

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils.

Tip: Light-coloured oak gives best engraving contrast.

Step 2 – Design Setup

Import your SVG into your laser software.

Resize to fit working area (leave 15–20mm margin from edges).

Set engraving to raster mode.

Use high resolution (300–400 DPI recommended).

Step 3 – Laser Settings (Test First!)

⚠ Always run a test on scrap oak.

Example starting point (CO₂ laser 50–60W):

Power: 60–75%

Speed: 250–350 mm/s

DPI: 300

For diode lasers:

Multiple passes may be needed

Increase contrast with slower speed

Goal: Deep, dark engraving without burning edges excessively.

Step 4 – Engraving

Secure board flat.

Focus laser precisely on surface.

Run engraving job.

Monitor first few minutes to ensure no excessive charring.

Step 5 – Clean & Finish

Lightly sand surface (very lightly!) to remove smoke marks.

Vacuum engraved dust.

Apply food-safe oil:

Mineral oil

Tung oil (food safe)

Hardwax oil (food contact certified)

Let oil absorb and wipe excess.

Optional: Apply second coat after 24 hours.

💡 Pro Tips for Other Makers

Masking tape before engraving reduces smoke staining.

Oak engraves darker than beech — adjust power accordingly.

Avoid over-oiling before engraving (causes uneven burn).

For extra depth, run a second light engraving pass.
