Motivation

xTool Studio 1.5 expanded the total number of available layers including the specific hex colors, so I needed some Illustrator swatches to match the defaults.

Solution

  1. Create a swatch for each of the default xTool Studio processing types using the provided hex colors.
  2. Map those colors to the processing types (Score, Engrave, Cut) that made sense to me
  3. Create a matching template in xTool Studio grouped by processing type
  4. Add all of these groups to my CC library.

Files

  • Included in this project:
    • xTool Studio (.xcs) file with the following:
      • Layer Placeholders (hidden Group with Output disabled) containing one object for each of the default xTool studio layer colors. This group is the value of the template. Without it, the layers default back to their hex color names.
      • Layer Notes (Text with Output disabled) explaining how xTool handles colored strokes and fills for layer and processing type assignments along with the current limitations of using the layer template for importing graphics - in short, this template cannot be used for that yet. But, it does work well to automatically organize your artwork so that all you have to do is set your processing settings to each layer.
  • Available via link:
  • Available in specific xTool related Facebook groups or by request:
    • Illustrator Swatch Exchange (.ase) file containing the default and processing type swatch groups for direct import using the swatch panel in Illustrator. The CC Library link should provide a way to import those groups as swatches into your own CC account which would then be accessible via the Illustrator library panel. I would share a link to that the .ase files directly, but that is not supported for Adobe CC file storage or Atomm.
