Information

After having managed to develop what I called the "Rainbow Effect" on the F1 Ultra, here I am back with this effect...
But this time, it is made with the F2 Ultra UV (thanks to Joshua for the tips on working with the color with the UV laser), and applied to "brushed" stainless steel!

It is not a question of reflections or a simple play of light:
It is a real coloring of metal, worked in gradation, obtained by the precise adjustment of the parameters and the laser-material interaction.

The result is a vibrant gradient, integrated into the very surface of the metal, that retains the brushed texture while revealing the colour.

Rainbow Effect on brushed stainless steel – F2 Ultra UV

Before starting, I invite you to watch the tutorial video I made for the F1 Ultra.
I explain in detail how I came to find this effect, the principle behind the coloring of the metal and how the gradient works.

For this project, I used a stainless steel medal with:

one side mirror and one side brushed

The settings shared here are therefore adapted to this specific material.
The principle of gradient remains the same for other supports, but it will most likely be necessary to adjust the parameters according to the type of medal used.

p data-start="1002" data-end="1338">Cleaning

Clean the medal thoroughly with alcohol.

Wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Do not touch the surface afterwards to avoid streaks.

Design placement

Place the design in the center of the workspace.

Check that it is the right size (you can use the design of this project to help you with placement and size as it is optimized for the size of the medal).

🎯 Settings & Setup

🔹 Focus

Set focus to 5.5mm.

A focus between 5.5 mm and 6.5 mm will give different results.

The photo of the project corresponds to a focus of 5.5 mm.

🔹 Creating the angle (for gradient)

Take 2 additional medals.

Overlay them in the machine.

They will serve as enhancer to create the necessary angle for the gradient.

🔹 Positioning

Perform a frame to precisely position the medal in relation to the design.

Adjust the placement of the 2 booster medals, they must be placed at the very top, so that the hole of the medal to be engraved just covers them.

This slight angle is what makes it possible to obtain the coloring gradient.

Burn

Start burning.

Once finished, wipe lightly with a microfiber cloth.

And admire the gradient obtained ✨

Protection (optional)

It is possible to apply a special metal protection balm to protect the color over time.
This is not mandatory, but recommended if the tag is intended to be handled regularly.
