Lattice Pattern Generator — Beginner's Guide
Welcome to Lattice Pattern Generator, a customizable design tool for creating geometric lattice panels, decorative arches, and freestanding wooden displays.
This guide explains how to choose patterns, customize your design, and export SVG or DXF cutting files.
Getting Started in 3 Steps
Step 1: Choose a Pattern
Select a pattern from the left panel. There are 14 available styles, including honeycomb, brick, herringbone, diamond, and circular patterns.
Click any thumbnail to apply it instantly. You can collapse the pattern panel using the arrow at the top to create more workspace.
Step 2: Customize Your Panel
Use the controls on the right to adjust:
Panel shape, width, and height
Border thickness
Pattern cell size and strut width
Full lattice or frame-only layout
Optional freestanding base and slot dimensions
Switch between millimeters and inches using the unit selector. Click Reset to restore default settings.
Step 3: Export Your Design
Choose SVG or DXF from the Download format selector.
Click Export → Download to save the file, or Export → Open in Studio to send the SVG directly to xTool Studio.
Panel Shapes
| Shape | Description |
|---|---|
| Rectangle | Traditional rectangular panel with optional rounded corners |
| Round Arch | Classic arch with a rounded top |
| Pointed Arch | Elegant pointed architectural arch |
| Scallop Round | Rounded arch with decorative scalloped edges |
| Scallop Point | Pointed arch with scalloped detailing |
| Onion Arch | Mughal-inspired arch with outward curves and a pointed top |
| Crown Arch | Wide decorative dome with a rounded crown |
When changing from a rectangle to an arch, the generator starts with a taller default size of 200 × 300 mm.

Customization Settings
Panel Dimensions
Width and Height:Set the overall panel size from 20 to 1500 mm.
Arch Height, Arch Rise, or Crown Height:Control the curved or pointed portion of applicable arches.
Scallop Size: Adjust scalloped edge details between 8 and 60 mm.
Corner Radius:Round rectangle corners from 0 to 100 mm. Enter 0 for sharp corners.
Border:Set the solid outer frame width between 0 and 100 mm.
Lattice Fill Options
Whole Panel:Fills the interior with the selected geometric pattern.
Frame Only: Creates a lattice border surrounding a solid center, suitable for engraving, decorative artwork, or an Om symbol.
Frame Width:Adjusts the width of the lattice band from 5 to 500 mm.
Pattern Settings
Strut Width:Controls how much material remains between neighboring cutouts. Available range: 0.5–30 mm.
For 3 mm birch plywood, a starting strut width of 2–3 mm or greater is recommended, depending on the pattern, panel size, and material quality.
Cell Size:Controls the scale and density of the pattern, from 3 to 200 mm.
Pattern Length:Adjusts brick, plank, or slot length relative to the cell size.
Additional settings appear automatically depending on the selected pattern.
Optional Freestanding Base
Enable Include Base to create a matching stand for your panel.
The generator adds a bottom tab to the panel and creates a separate base piece with a corresponding slot.
Available adjustments:
Base Overhang:0–200 mm beyond each side of the panel
Base Depth: 20–500 mm front to back
Slot From Back: Position of the slot relative to the rear edge
Tab Width:10–1500 mm, limited by panel width
Material Thickness:0.5–20 mm
Fit Clearance: Additional clearance for assembly
For 3 mm plywood, set Material Thickness = 3 mm.
A fit clearance of approximately 0.05–0.2 mm is a useful starting point. Test the fit on a small sample because actual plywood thickness and laser kerf vary.
The generator displays a warning and blocks export if the slot cannot fit inside the base.
Canvas Navigation
| Action | How to Use |
|---|---|
| Zoom | Mouse wheel, trackpad pinch, or +/− controls |
| Pan | Click and drag the canvas |
| Fit to Screen | Click the corner-brackets icon |
| Actual Size | Click the zoom percentage to return to 100% |
| Touch Controls | One-finger drag to pan; two-finger pinch to zoom |
The Result card shows the current dimensions and the number of cut contours.
Export Formats
SVG — Scalable Vector Graphics
Exported at 1:1 scale in millimeters
Red cut paths (#FE0002)
0.1 mm stroke width
Millimeter-based viewBox
Suitable for importing into supported laser design software
Confirm the cutting operation and settings in your laser software before starting a job.
DXF — Drawing Exchange Format
Millimeter-based CAD geometry
All cutting geometry on the CUT layer
Suitable for compatible CAD, CNC, and laser software
Open in Studio
Sends the SVG version directly to xTool Studio. Select the appropriate processing type when prompted.
Preview colors: White represents material that remains; gray areas represent cutouts.
Troubleshooting
Export stays on “Exporting…”
The generator may have been opened outside the Atomm platform. Open it through its Atomm page and try exporting again.
Partial cells appear near the border
This is expected. The pattern follows the panel's boundary and clips cells along the inner border or solid center.
“No cut-outs fit” warning
The border or pattern cells may be too large. Reduce the border width or cell size.
The lattice seems fragile
Increase Strut Width or choose a larger cell size. Thin bridges and dense patterns can be more delicate.
The preview is cut off
Use Fit to Screen or drag the canvas. Zooming changes only the preview, not the exported geometry.
The exported size is incorrect
Check the dimensions and unit selector. Export files are generated in millimeters at actual size.
The base does not fit
Verify the actual material thickness and adjust Fit Clearance. Cut a small test slot before producing the complete design.
Material Recommendation
3 mm Birch Plywood — Precision Laser Cut
For decorative lattice panels, 3 mm birch plywood offers a lightweight construction and natural wood appearance.
Use appropriate laser settings for your material and machine, and always test small or intricate patterns before cutting a full panel.
