Description

Type a name. Get a laser file.

Name Puzzle turns any child's name into a complete, ready-to-cut wooden puzzle. Every letter is cut from the panel it sits in, so the recess and the piece always match — no test fits, no sanding to size.

Everything on one board

Type the name, pick a font, drop in decor pieces and drag them where you want. The board resizes itself, the pieces snap into line, and the panel on the right tells you the finished size before you cut anything. Flip to Export view and you see the actual file — print colours, cut lines and part labels — not a stylised preview.

What you get?

  • Top panel — letters and decor cut in place.
  • Base panel — same outline, glued underneath to close the recesses.
  • Grip pegs — two discs per letter, glued into a knob small hands can hold
Letters with inner islands (A B D O P Q R) are counted for you, so you know how many to glue back.
  • A readme in the download repeats all of it in plain text, so nothing lives only on screen.

One file, three layer

Export downloads a zip with two files: the cut file and a plain-text readme. The SVG keeps the parts separated into layers, and every part carries its own name and description inside the file — so whoever opens it knows the two panels stack and the recesses end up one board-thickness deep.

  • mason.svg — cut layer (red lines), print layer (your colours, aligned to the cuts, ready for UV), labels layer (part names in grey, annotation only).
  • mason-readme.txt — sheet count, recess depth, island and peg counts, what each layer is for, and the five glue-up steps.

38 decor pieces, or bring your own

Animals, vehicles, nature, space and treats — every piece is cut in place like the letters, so it lifts out of its own recess. Upload your own SVG and it gets traced into a cut outline automatically.

6 fonts, all thick enough to cut

Thin strokes snap when a toddler pulls a piece out. Every font here was picked for chunky, uninterrupted letterforms.

Built for the machine, not just the screen

  • The board grows only when something no longer fits — or type an exact size and the letters re-wrap to it.
  • Enter your laser's work area and the design gets checked against it.
  • Warns before you waste material: overlapping pieces, less than 3 mm of wood between cuts, or a piece small enough to be a choking hazard under 3.
  • Kerf clearance is adjustable — start at 0, the laser's own kerf usually gives the right fit.

Assembly

  1. Cut both panels. Letters are cut in place, so each hole and its piece come from the same cut.
  2. Glue the inner islands (A B D O P Q R) onto the base panel, centred in their recesses.
  3. Glue the top panel onto the base panel, edges aligned. Keep glue out of the recesses.
  4. Stack two discs per peg, glue, then glue one peg centred on each letter.
  5. Sand the letter edges lightly so small hands can lift them out easily.

Cut it from 3 mm plywood, sand the edges, paint the pieces — and it's a gift.
