Floral Baby Name Sign – Instructions

Materials

Basswood or plywood

xTool laser-cutting machine

Alcohol-based art markers

Optional: water-based acrylic paint markers

Wood glue

Fine sandpaper

Optional clear water-based protective finish

Cutting

Place the wood in the laser machine. 

Select the correct material type and thickness in xTool Studio.

Use the recommended settings for your machine and perform a small test cut first.

Cut the arched background, name, flowers, branches, butterfly, small decorations and stand pieces.

Remove the masking paper and lightly sand any smoke marks or rough edges.

Colouring

Colour all decorative pieces before gluing them to the background. I used alcohol-based art markers.

Apply the colour gradually in light layers. Test it on a leftover piece of wood first because alcohol-based markers may spread along the wood grain.

For brighter, more opaque colours with less bleeding, you can use water-based acrylic paint markers instead.

Let all pieces dry completely before assembly.

Assembly

Use the project image as a guide to position the name, flowers, branches, butterfly and small decorative pieces on the arched background.

Apply a small amount of wood glue to the back of each piece. Avoid using too much glue because it may spread around the edges.

Press each piece gently into place and let the glue dry.

Insert the finished background panel into the base. If necessary, add a small amount of wood glue inside the slot to secure it.

After everything has dried, you may apply a clear water-based protective finish.

Important: Colour the pieces only after laser cutting. Laser settings vary depending on the machine, material and wood thickness, so always perform a test cut and follow xTool’s safety instructions.
