Description

Grow a bonsai you can cut, slot together and keep

Bonsai Kit Generator turns a few sliders into a complete laser-cut plywood bonsai: a curving trunk with branches, leaf pads that press onto a tenon at each branch tip, and a finger-jointed pot with an engraved soil plate. Every tree is grown by an algorithm, so each variation is different. One rule holds whatever you change: nothing overlaps. Every leaf has its own space and a clear path onto its tenon, so the kit always goes together.

Start from ten bonsai styles

Pick a style and the generator grows a tree in that form: Classic Pine, Slanting, Cascade, Literati, Windswept, Twin Trunk, Cherry Blossom, Maple, Ginkgo and Clump. Each style is only a starting point; every parameter stays editable.

Shape every part

  • Trunk:height, one to three trunks, thickness, taper, lean, bend, twists and root flare. New Variation grows a different tree with the same settings.
  • Branches:how many, how long, how far they droop, whether they grow to one side, and where the first branch starts.
  • Leaves:six shapes (pine cloud, scalloped, maple, sakura, ginkgo and round), size, size variation, random rotation, an optional crown leaf and engraved veins.
  • Sprouts: up to four small seedlings planted around the tree.
  • Pot: width, depth, height, rim, foot, pebble engraving and a stain preview.
  • Material:sheet thickness from 1.5 to 6 mm, joint clearance, trunk engraving (swirls, wood grain or an inner outline) and sheet size.

One rule: nothing overlaps

The tree grows one branch at a time. Each new branch and leaf is checked against everything already placed, and is moved, resized or left out if it would collide.

  • Branches keep a set gap from each other.
  • Leaves that overlap when seen from above sit at least one layer spacing apart in height.
  • Every leaf has a clear vertical path down onto its tenon, so you can press it on after the tree is planted.
  • Nothing touches the pot walls, the rim or the table.

The Overlap check panel tells you how many parts were left out and which setting to change to fit them.

See it assembled, or exploded

The 3D preview shows the finished kit with its engraving, plywood grain and laser-darkened edges. Hover the model and click to explode it: the leaves lift off their tenons, the trunk rises out of the soil plate and the pot walls slide apart, so you can see how every joint works. Click again to put it back together.

  • All parts are nested onto the sheet size you choose: 300 × 300, 400 × 300, 400 × 400 or 600 × 400 mm. A classic tree fits on one or two 300 × 300 mm sheets.
  • Dimensions are real millimetres, and every slot and tenon is sized to your sheet thickness and joint clearance.
  • Red lines are cut and blue lines are engraved, and Open in Studio recognises both colours.
  • Download gives you one SVG per sheet. Open in Studio sends every sheet in one editable file.

From sheet to bonsai in four steps

  1. Cut and engrave.Cut every sheet from the thickness you set; all slots and tenons are sized to it.

  1. Build the pot.Stand three walls in the base, lower the soil plate so its tabs sit in the wall slots, then close the box with the last wall.

  1. Plant the tree.Push the trunk tabs through the soil plate, then press each leaf onto its tenon from above, starting with the lowest.

  1. Finish. Paint the leaves before assembly. A drop of wood glue fixes a loose joint; if a joint is tight, raise Joint clearance by 0.05 mm.

Good to know

  • Designed for 3 mm birch plywood or basswood; set the sheet thickness to match your material.
  • Leaf colour and pot stain only change the preview. The cut file carries no colour.
  • The interface follows your atomm language and is available in all 17 platform languages.
