Backlit Mirror with a stand
I used the IR laser on the backside of the mirror. Power 40% - Speed 400 and 300 Lines Per CM Remember to invert the image before you engrave it or it will be backwards when you flip the mirror back over.
I started to do this with basswood, but thought it would look better with walnut. I used the blue laser 100% Power speed was at 4 and had to make 2 passes. I cut 3 of the circles out and on the 4th one just ignore the inside circle so that the back layer is solid. The stand is 3 layers thick and the base is 2 layers.
This got a little tricky. After I glued the mirror into the first circle, I glued the 2nd, 3rd and back layer together. also glued the 3 sections of the stand and the 2 hearts of the base together. I used a Dremel in a Dremel drill press to drill the holes in the stand and the 3 circles. also drilled a hole in the center of of the back layer to run the lights through. I wanted more reflection from the lights so I put a round piece of aluminum foil in the back. It worked but, Didn't like it. wadded the foil up, straightened it back out a little and put it back in. Liked it. Dry fitted everything to make sure it looked right and glued the mirror layer on. I took the inside of the rivet out and used the outer part for the hinge. glued the rivets into the stand. The downside to the F1 is that when you cut large circles out, the edges are at an angle. So after I Put it all together, I used a drum sanding wheel on the dremel press to sand the edges down smooth. Then stained the edges with a walnut stain.
