There are many gifts we can give a graduate that can commemoratee their achievement. In this project we will make a multi-layered wood keychain with the class of 2024 as the primary components of the design.
The first step in this project is to enter the text 2024, which is the foundation of the design. Next, use the outline tool to draw a vector around the numbers. We will use this to cut out the keychain.
After adding the outline, some of the numbers still did not connect. I have added in some basic rectangles to make the connections. Since this is a keychain, we want it to be plenty strong. After adding the rectangles, use the combine tool to unite the parts.
Next we need to add a loop on the end so that we can connect the design to the chain ring. To do this, just add in circle and unite it to the outline of the numbers. Enter a smaller circle for the center cut out.
For the second layer of this design, I am adding a “Class of” text. I used the dancing script font and set it to cut out. You will notice that each letter is a vector and if processed the letters will not be connected. To solve this issue we will need to do a few steps.
First let's export the text as an SVG. We will then add it back to the canvas. You will notice that each letter is an independent vector, and therefor we can unite the letters where they touch.
Complete this process for all letters. You may need to adjust spacing to ensure they overlap or connect at a good spot.
The settings are for the D1 5W laser. You may need to adjust the settings for your laser configuration.
Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines for your laser and always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
