This decorative sign could be used as a cake topper, frame decoration, or even a scrapbook cover ornament. The design is set up to engrave and cut on basswood plywood, but you could easily modify it for other materials.
To start this project let's add in the 2024 as text. I added the 20 and 24 as two different blocks so that I can add more of a space between. This space makes room for the graduation cap and diploma.
Next I added in the image of the graduation cap. I added an outline of the image and selected the outline, then the 2024 to subtract this space. This prevents overlap of the engraving path.
Next, I added the text “Class of” in the dancing script font. I overlapped this over the top of the 2 and 0. Again we need to add an outline and then subtract the outline from the 20 vector so that it does not have any overlap.
Finally, we need to add an outline to the entire design. This outline will connect all the numbers and text into a single object.
These settings are for the d1 5W laser. You may need to adjust your settings for your own setup.
next set up the laser with 3mm basswood plywood. Be sure to follow all the safety rules that go with your laser. Always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operaiton.
