Wooden Spoons. Perfect gift for Mom.
Prepare the spoons. I used 400 grit sanding block and gave a quick sand to all surfaces, just to remove any raised areas.
Place a spoon on the bed of your laser, under the laser beam, and click the auto-measure button.
I would suggest you only process one part of the spoon at a time (the handle or the main part of the spoon), but you can do it all at once if you prefer.
I started with the main part of the spoon. Frame the design using the framing button in XCS. Remember that if the framing happens to quickly for you to get a good idea of where the laser will work over your piece, you can always slow down the framing speed. You may have to frame several times to get it perfectly where you want it.
Process the main part of the spoon (or the handle, whichever you decide to do first). Once your project is complete, move on to the next part of the spoon and engrave it. Make sure to frame your design (you may have to do this several times) before engraving.
I had a few hit and misses with this project - because of the nature of the camera in the M1, I highly suggest only doing one spoon at a time if possible AND make sure your spoon is toward the top of the laser bed where the camera angle is not quite as distorted.
Once your project is complete, use whatever cleaning method you normally use (sandpaper, baby wipe, alcohol, etc.) to remove any excess char. Lightly sand the entire spoon with 600 grit sandpaper.
Tie your spoon with a ribbon and it's ready to be gifted!
