Information

In this project we will look at engraving a name in the bottom of a wooden dough bowl. The dough bowl was picked up from Wal-Martt and the laser set up is easy. this project is a great gift idea.

Step1: Size The Bowl

In this project, I wanted to engrave on a curved surface.  Unfortunately, I don't have an S1, but still yet, I was able to engrave.  The trick here is to determine an area of the bowl or tray where there is enough clearance for the laser to move freely around.  If it touches the bowl it will move everything out of alignment.    Also, try to find an area where the difference in height is very small.

Step2: Set up the engraving file

With the usable engraving dimensions, set up your XCS canvas with a square or just resize your textbox to match the dimensions.  I am just doing a last name for my engraving, so I just sized the textbox.

Step3: Settings

The settings in the project file are for the D1 with a 5W laser.  I have set up the engraving for my bowl.  Please keep in mind your settings will vary based on your laser configuration and the bowl you use.

Be sure to follow all the laser safety guidelines that go with your laser.  Always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in use.
