In this project I'll show you how to add text to a vector SVG file and the process for creating a stand.
Import the Rose SVG and resize it to 8" tall.
Add an offset of 0.143
Using the “Text” tool type in the sentiment “If mom's were flowers I'd pick you!” and choose your font.
I entered a (-7) in the line spacing so that the sentiment looks better."
Resize and place the text into the petal of the rose. Weld the text.
Change the layer color to PURPLE.
Up to this point in the project I have been working in inches, for these next steps I will be working in mm. You can change that in the settings menu.
To determine the thickness of your material use digital calipers. For example, my wood is advertised at 3mm but in reality it is closer to 2.7mm. This measurement is important.
I’m going to add a tab at the bottom of the rose stem so that it will fit into the base securely.
To calculate the height take the measurement of your wood and double it.
Example:
Wood is 2.7mm x 2 = 5.4mm
For the Width I chose 35mm
I added a corner radius of 2mm.
Center this rectangle on the bottom of the stem. See this picture for placement.
Select the RED outline layer and the tab you just created and “Unite” them.
Create an oval shape measuring 90mm x 45mm and add a 5mm outline.
Draw a rectangle that measures 35mm x 2.75mm and duplicate it.
This measurement is the width of the tab on the rose stem and the height will be the thickness of your wood. My wood measured 2.7mm but I’ve changed it to 2.75mm for a little wiggle room.
Separate the base and outline and center the small rectangles into each piece.
Select the larger base with the rectangle and “Subtract at Overlap”. Repeat for the smaller base piece.
Prepare the file for processing:
The Rose vector and text will be engraved. Assign PURPLE
The outline and 2 base pieces will be cut. Assign RED
Send to the laser for processing. Should take approximately 30 min.
Enjoy your Rose.
