Keep the countdown going with this pencil box. This project file has enough digits to keep count for 180 days down to 1. You can easily add designs to the surface of the box or change the countdown to your favorite holiday.
On this project we begin with creating the box. Boxes.py (boringplace.org) is a fantastic resource for designing boxes of any size. There are many customizations you can do to get the perfect box for your project.
The next part is easy. Just add in the text or designs you would like to be on the box.. I wanted to do a count down to summer for a teacher's desk, so I put in some text for that. and left a space for the numbers
I thought it would be simple enough to create a small ledge out of two rectangles to hold the numbers.
Since the numbers would rest on the ledge, I figured it would be best for the numbers to be engraved on tiles. To do this i just drew a rectangle and copied it enough times for all my number needed. Just consider how many times a specific digit will be used to display the number and create that many tiles for it.
For this project there are three main processes. Cut, score and engrave. I have configured the file for the D1 5W laser, so if you have a different set up than that, you may need to adjust the settings.
Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines that go with your laser. Always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
