Information
A very popular style of hat today is the trucker hat with a leather patch. These are a popular and easy project. I'll show you how to engrave a patch for your own hat in this short tutorial.

Instruction
1
Step1: Add the patch template

The first step in this project is to add in the template for the patch.  Since the patch is an irregular shape, the pattern helps to align your design on the patch.  Also, we will be working off of the center of the patch.

Step2: Add in a graphic

Next let's add in a graphic.  Here i have added a simple circular design with a lake, mountains and the sun setting.

Step3: Add Text

The next task is to add in text.  You can use the curve tool to wrap the text around the design.  There is a circle that will appear to help with alignment.

Step4: settings

For the D1 with a 5W laser, I have found that a power of 80% and a speed of 80mm/s produces good results.  I also apply these same settings for the image of the logo.

Step5: Engrave and iron on

Now, let's engrave the patch with your laser.  Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines that come with your laser.  Always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.  Also be sure to know the material you are using.  Some leatherette products are made of PVC plastics and can release toxic fumes with engraved.  Be sure to research the materials you use,  A good way to play it safe is to purchase materials from xtool for your project.

The patches I used in this project were purchased online and have a plastic film on the back that acts as an adhesive when heated.  The first hat I tried ironing it on, however we found sewing on the patch has the best results and is worth a little extra time.
