This can be used to make a trinket or jewelry box or you can engrave the center of the cutouts to create a fun coaster set. I’m including both versions in the design. Both collars are designated by text in the file. *Added a second file with a slightly thicker decorative piece to try with the s1
Score and cut pieces. If you’re making the coaster set, upload and engrave the images before you cut them. Also if you're engraving coasters, it will increase your production time. I engraved the base of the lid so my mom will see the design when she opens it.
Use wood glue to laminate the rings for the collar. I typically do two at a time and then glue those pieces together.
After the glue has set, glue the assembled collar to the base.
I included a spacer but it is optional. I just wanted to give the lid a little more depth. I also used sharpies to add a pop of color to the floral base piece.
I recommend gluing the spacer to the floral lid base. It’s just easier than gluing the base of the lid to the spacer. Just trust me. I found out the hard way. 😂
Once the glue has set on the spacer if you choose to use it, add glue to the spacer and adhere the base lid.
After that has set, carefully apply glue to the decorative piece which is made from 3mm and add it to the floral base. I scored it specifically for this step.
I like to add a coat of paste wax to ensure that the fit isn’t too tight. I also sand the coasters and carefully buff them with the same wax.
It’s pretty simple and straightforward and makes a lovely little gift that can easily be personalized.
