This idea an design is one thats was in my head for very long time but now that I own my own laser it was just a time question when I would give it a try.

Its a very common shape or motiv for stringart but I don‘t wanted the typical for my own business so the idea of using it kinda like a „real“ jar was born.

I think this is a very cute gift when you dont obly want to gift money so here you can add also some little other stuff.

For me i used 2mm plywood so I needed 12 of the small pieces and the lid to create the height that end with the nails. If you use thicker wood you can cut out less pieces.

RED = Cut

GREEN = Engrave

If you want another lid or different sizes, make sure to transform all pieces together.

I did the cutting and engraving in 2 parts:

  1. Creating the engravings on the 18mm Wood thats the base for stringart
  2. Used 2mm playwood for the cuttings
3

Step3: Hammer nails into the wood

Bring the nails into the wood at the engraved dots. Very easy step and quickly done.
Do make the nails more straight i prefere to drill hole before and hammer afterwards.

Step4: Wood Assembly

Glue together the small pieces.

As I used 2mm wood I glued 6pcs together to get the height similar to the nails in the wood.

Step5: Add Cuts to the Wood

Just place the Jar lid on the top onto the wood. I left a little space between the nails and the cut piece to make it easier for creating the stringart on the top nails.

Step6: Connect nails with yarn

I tried 2 versions:

  1. Chaos / random = just connect in no vissible pattern all nails. Just do enough so it hold some coins you add „into the jar“
  2. Clean = start on the top left and use horizontal connection to create a very clean and organized look.

Step7: Finished Gift
