A thoughtful gift for a mother could be a handmade bracelet or necklace featuring laser-engraved charms that mark the birth time of each of her children.
The first step in the project is to create the shape of the charm. For this, I am using the basic shape of a square with rounded corners. This is one of the built-in shapes in XCS. After adding it into the canvas, I adjusted so that it was a rectangular shape.
The next thing I did was to add in two holes at each end so that I could tie string between the charms. I made these using the circle tool, and I also chose to make them slightly oval so that I wouldn't cut in much on the main area of the charm to save room for the text.
Now we just needed to add in text for the project. I thought it would be nice to add in the time of birth for each child. Of course you could add in anything that is meaningful for your mom.
Finally, let's set up the laser to cut and engrave. My laser is a D1 with a 5W laser. You may need to adjust your settings for your laser if it is a different configuration.
Be sure to follow the safety rules for your laser and wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
