We all have eaten it we all love it and we all eat to much of it, here is a simple Acrylic washable spaghetti portion sizer for 1-4 people.
Step 1) This project starts off with a simple little circle, it quickly turns into 4 little circles as it gets copy and pasted 3 time to make 4 circles.
Step 2) According to the USDA a portion for 1 person of Spaghetti is roughly 59g or in size approx. the size of a quarter (25¢) with simple math that is close to 26mm in Dia. so the first hole will be that size. The second hole will be 30mm in Dia. and the 3rd 36mm and finally the last hole will be 40mm in dia. Now according to the math it works out to be 1 person first sized hole and so on as it gets to 4 persons.
Step 3) In this step the 4 holes will be lined up and spaced out evenly, keeping close eye on the middle line. I added a new circle 25mm larger than each hole and positioned them in the same straight line with equal spacing, each hole from the measurements are 25mm larger as they get bigger.
Step 4) Now that there are 8 circles all bunched up it doesn't look like much until I grouped the 4 smaller inside holes and moved them away. This allowed me to use the combine feature and unite the remaining larger outside holes to become one solid piece. I then moved the smaller inside holes back within the middle, I made sure everything was aligned properly by using the align tool and selecting vertical and horizontal to be sure it was centered.
Step 5) Now it was time to label each hole based on the amount of people or per person portions. 1 person through 4 person This was done by clicking on the Text button and editing it to 1 person, once that was placed in the appropriate position it was simple to add the other 3 by copy and pasting the texting each time and changing the number in the edit box. I like this as it keeps the size virtually correct without having to manually sizing each line of text. once the 4 places had the names I added an oval to name the measuring tool it self to Spaghetti Sizer. All the text is set to be engraved including the name at the very top.
Step 6) Now to prepare the sheet of 3mm black cast acrylic, it comes cover on both sides with a protective film, I personally like to remove the bottom film before cutting in the laser. Once all the settings were set it was then off to the laser.
Step 7) Now that the laser did it's job, there is the perfect time to paint all the text before removing the top layer of film, this makes for a perfect masking and works well. after the paint dries I removed the film to reveal the engravings in white that stand out beautifully. Now a quick cleaning and it is ready to be used. Hope this can help someone try this project some day. Enjoy!
