Step1: File Design

I used adobe illustrator to design the file. I uploaded a bear outline from Creative Fabrica which allows commercial use if altering the design. I removed the inside line of bear and used the fill tool to make it black.  I created a text box and typed Mama and selected a font that I thought would be nice on the necklace. I placed the words where I wanted to within the bear. I used the pathfinder tool to cut the letters out of the bear shape. I added another text box and added the word blessed. I used the warp tool to make it curved. I saved this as an SVG.

  1. Insert or make a bear outline. If inserting one already made, follow copyright and do not use one that does not allow digital use. Creative Fabrica does allow its elements to be used commercially in digital files for subscription users.
  2. Type Mama and select a font. Select text box and select create outlines and then use pathfinder tool to combine.
  3. Place the word Mama in the bear figure.
  4. Use pathfinder tool to cut out the words from the bear.
  5. Add anther text box and type "Blessed" or other desired word.
  6. Use warp tool to create an arc for the word so it curves.
  7. Place the word above the bear and resize if needed.
  8. Save as an SVG.

I opened XCS and added the file I made in Adobe Illustrator as an SVG. I added a circle to represent the shape of the necklace. This helps with proper alignment. I used the framing tool to place the circle where the necklace was placed. It is hard to see the framing light on the stainless steel so I use the Rect framing setting and arrange the framing square around the necklace.

  1. Open XCS and add design file.
  2. Add a circle the size of your necklace.
  3. Place image in circle.
  4. Place necklace in center of F1 space.
  5. Frame the image and circle. Move the image until the edges of the square line up with the edges of the necklace.
  6. Focus the laser.
  7. Input settings.
  8. Select Ignore for the circle settings.
  9. Run the engrave.
  10. If the engrave is not dark enough, run again without moving it.
