A customized 3 tiered tray for party serving
Because these plates have a lip on them we have to take some care to keep the engraving a little away from the edges so the laser module won't run into the edges.
Measure your plates. My large plate was 270mm on the inside edges.
Subtract 60mm from the size and set that for your design size. So I created the flower at 210mm. Once centered this will allow 30mm all around it to give the laser head room.
I suggest both engraving and then scoring the design as it makes it stand out nicely. The larger plate took about 35 minutes.
I did the smaller plate and the bowl on the F1 since it's a little faster and both files are attached. For the bowl you might have to get a little creative with how to hold it up on it's side. I used a roll of tape and a couple scrap pieces of basswood to steady it while engraving.
You will need to drill a hole in both plates and the bowl.
Pick a bit that is the size of the hardware. It can be a smidge larger but you won't want it to be loose so try to find something fairly close.
Drill holes in the center of all 3 items.
Use the single screw and the bottom “arm” and attach them to the bottom plate.
Add the middle plate on top and use the next arm to screw that down.
Finally, put the bowl on top and use the handle arm to screw that on. You will want to align your design to face the handle so it looks nice.
Add your treats and enjoy!
