We need coasters to protect our butcher block counters and these were very fun to make. A unique touch to personalize your home.
Create a rectangle that is tall. I started with 30x100.
Choose the vector edit, change the top 2 to perfect symmetry so it's just a little rounded and then move the bottom two points towards each other.
Add an outline of -6. Choose the two layers and Subtract.
Create a second copy, rotate it 180 degrees and Combine them. Now it looks a little like a propeller.
Make copies so you have 5 of these and then align them vertically and horizontally. Now rotate the copies, one each at 36, 72, 108, and 144 degrees. Select all copies and combine. There may be a few super tiny pieces in the middle that are left over. Put a circle over them and choose that with the main shape and Combine to remove them.
Since the pieces are thin they might break too easily so we want to add the outer part of the wheel to strengthen it.
Add a circle around it and give the circle an inner outline at -6. Select both circles and Subtract. Adjust the size of the circle so it overlaps the spokes just a little. Now select both objects and Combine.
Change the height to 114mm for a coaster size and set this to cut. Make 3 copies so you have 4 coasters OR use the grid array function, set to 2 x 2, which will space and align them nicely.
Cut them out of your chosen material. I like something that can soak up a condensation so I prefer wood or cork for coasters. I also chose not to seal them for the same reason.
