Step1: Choose and edit your design

I have included 12 pre-made designs to choose from but these can easily be edited to make them more personal with custom text or your name.

The first file contains the cut lines for the 2 different shapes of door hanger along with my favourite engraving designs ‘do not disturb’ and ‘snoozing in progress’.

The second and third files contain some more example designs that can also be used on one or both sides of your door hanger.

Step2: Cut out your sign

Now you need to place your material in the laser and set the parameters for cutting.

The settings shown here are for the D1 5w cutting 4mm brich plywood and will need to be adjusted for other machines and materials.

Step3: Engrave your design

Now that your sign is cut it is time to engrave your chosen design.

If you are only engraving one side this can be set at the same time as cutting to save time and make it easier to align the design in the centre.

It can also be useful to engrave both sides of the sign with different designs to fit any occasion. To do this I would recommend securing your material in the laser then once your sign is cut you can flip the sign and use the remaining material as a guide to perfectly align the design on the reverse side.

Step4: Optional finishing touches

Now you might want to stain or varnish your sign to give a shiny finished look. I coated them with clear beeswax to give a smooth feel to the finished product.
