Detailed Instructions will be in all the photos.

  • First find a puzzle piece you would like you use, you can google free puzzle pieces.
    • Copy and paste the image into XCS
    • Click "trace image"
  • Play with the settings on the right hand side until the blue lines over you image are nice, smooth and clean and click “save”
  • Because this puzzle piece I choose has double lines I need to create an outline
    • Click “outline” and choose you offset distance.
We don't need it very large. I choose .04 for this design.
      click “ok”
  • On the left thand side, click the “basic shapes” icon and had a heart.
    • Select the heart, copy and paste it off to the side. You will need this later.
  • Select the puzzle piece and copy and paste.
    • if you are designing for more than two children puzzle pieces you can paste it for as many times as you need
  • Vertically align center all three pieces. Please see the 5th picture.
  • Make a duplicate copy of the three pieces and place it on the page.
    • You should have two identical puzzles with a heart in the middle and a extra heart
  • On one of the pieces, Select the left puzzle piece and the heart, Under Combine, click, Subtract
  • On the other one, select the right puzzle piece and the heart, click subtract again.
    • You should be left with only two pieces
    • Left puzzle piece with half a heart and right puzzle piece with half a heart
      • Align them vertically
  • Create a Text that says “MOM” place in the center of the heart to size to your liking
  • Click and drag over the two piece and create an “outline”
  • Now, we need to make a circle the size of the magnets.
    • Using digial calipers, measure your magnet. The ones I use from Amazon are .69 in diameter.
    • I created a circle .70 in diameter
  • Make sure all items are set “cut”
  • Now copy your small circle, right click, copy and paste, twice.
  • You should have three circles
    • Move the cicles over the over the puzzle pieces and the heart.
Each piece should have a small circle on it.
      Align Vertically
  • Make sure the new circles are set to “cut”
  • Remove everything from the outline except the three circles.
  • Select the outline and the three circles, right click, group
  • Add text of childrens name you would like to use.
    • Select the text and click weld if you picked overlapping letters
    • Make sure both names are set to engrave and place them each on a puzzle piece

  • You need to attached the magnets to the back. The easiest way to do this is line the front pieces up with the outline and carefully turn it over.
  • The magnets I use from amazon come with 3M adhesive backing. Peel off the backing and had to the magnets once aligned place the sticky side down through the hole to stick to the back of the puzzle piece or heart.
  • Paint and stain these to your liking. I used stain for my outline board and used a paint pen for the mom letters
  • Glue the letters to the Heart.
  • Now you have a fridge heart magnets that showcases mom and her children.
